2025 Inflation Calculator Description

This model can be used on its own or as part of a wider research tool, for calculating the effect of inflation over a specific period of time on any given amount. It includes two calculators:

• year-on-year inflation calculator
• flat rate inflation calculator

The first one calculates the equivalent value of a specified amount from any selected year (going back 63 years max or earliest available date), based on the average annual CPI (Consumer Price Index) for the relevant Country and period.

Additionally, through drop-down curtains, you can visualise either the average inflation rate or the cumulative inflation for the selected period. 

The historical inflation rate development is provided in chart form.

The second one calculates future or backward inflation, based on the specified inflation rate for the selected period and amount. By default, the model selects the average inflation rate of the past 20 years, but it can be changed as needed.

The model includes 3 sheets as follows:

–       INPUT: to be used for entering the desired data in the white cells, using drop-down curtains where applicable, and for viewing the results;

–       CALCULATION: the engine of the model, where all the calculations take place, containing only formulas;

–       MASTER: pre-filled with historic inflation rate information by Country, ready for manual updates in future years.

A maximum of 63 years look-back is possible, due to Excel formula constraints.
